Zone 5 at a glance
TLC's zone map puts Arden Heights next to three zones: Eltingville/Annadale/Prince's Bay (84), Freshkills Park (99) and Rossville/Woodrow (204). TLC labels it "Boro Zone", a category in its data files, not a legal line (taxi zones explained).
Rankings "of 19" leave out Great Kills Park (zone 110), a park zone with only 540 pickups in the year.
Early starts on weekdays, late nights on weekends
Weekday pickups jump from about 7 at 5 a.m. to about 18 at 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. By 10 a.m. they settle at 11–12 an hour. Weekends look different. An average Saturday has about 243 pickups, more than a weekday (about 210). Saturday pickups peak at about 15 at 7 p.m.
Drop-offs show where the weekend night goes. On Sundays, 29% of drop-offs in this zone come from trips that start between midnight and 5 a.m. The busiest Sunday hour for drop-offs is midnight, with about 17. Those are trips that start late on Saturday night.
Month by month
App pickups were lowest in September 2025 (5,489) and highest in March 2026 (7,033). May 2026 (6,937) was close behind. Yellow taxis made only 30 pickups here all year but 234 drop-offs.
Where trips go
Arden Heights sends riders all over the south shore. The top destination is Eltingville/Annadale/Prince's Bay (16.5%). Then come Heartland Village/Todt Hill (10.3%), Charleston/Tottenville (9.8%), the zone itself (8.8%) and Great Kills (8.7%). Few Staten Island zones keep so small a share of their trips at home; in St. George it is 33.1%.
Two out-of-state lines stand out: Newark Airport takes 3.1% of pickups and other places outside New York City another 3.0%. Port Authority bridges to New Jersey charge tolls only on the way into New York. The car toll is $14.79 off-peak or $16.79 peak with a NY/NJ E-ZPass and $23.30 by mail (rates as of October 12, 2026; Port Authority). See Newark Airport tolls by route.
Fares, pay and tips
The median app trip is 3.70 miles in 12.2 minutes, with a $17.20 fare and $13.64 driver pay before tips. That works out to $74.53 per engaged hour, 4th of 19 island zones. Engaged time is only time with a rider, so this is not hourly earnings. Riders tipped 5.7% of the fare, $1.51 a trip on average, tied with Rossville/Woodrow for the 2nd-highest tip rate of the 19 zones compared.
Rules for picking up here
- Arden Heights is in TLC's Hail Zone, which is everywhere except Manhattan below East 96th and West 110th Streets and the airports (Chapter 51). Yellow and green cabs may take hails here.
- App drivers may not. An FHV driver who picks up without a base dispatch faces $200–$350 for a first violation (80-19(c)(1); Chapter 80). See who can pick up where.
- There is no DOT relief stand in the zone (vqu8-xef9, checked October 12, 2026).

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
