Ocean Hill (TLC zone 177) is a mid-sized neighborhood zone, almost entirely served by apps, with short trips and a strong Saturday night. From September 2025 to August 2026, 1,130,403 trips started here (about 3,097 a day) and 1,105,646 ended here. Uber and Lyft did 97.5% of pickups. 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Month by month

App pickups grew over the year, from 78,432 in September 2025 to 98,367 in August 2026. The busiest month overall was May 2026 (100,654 pickups).

Yellow pickups moved the other way. They held between about 2,300 and 3,100 a month until May 2026, then fell to about 1,300 a month from June. Many Brooklyn zones show the same June drop in yellow pickups. The trip records do not say why, so treat recent yellow counts with care.

Pickup rules and curb signs

Ocean Hill is in TLC's Hail Zone, like all of Brooklyn. Yellow and green cabs may take street hails here. App and other for-hire drivers may only pick up riders booked through their base (rule 80-19(c)(1)). The Brooklyn page and who can pick up where explain the rules and fines. This is general information, not legal advice.

Few trips from here reach the MTA's Congestion Relief Zone (Manhattan at and below 60th Street). When one does, the passenger pays the per-trip charge: $1.50 on an app trip and $0.75 on a taxi trip, as of 2026-10-12 (MTA).

Stands: DOT's relief-stand data lists no relief stand in zone 177, and the current sign data shows no taxi stand (checked October 12, 2026). It does show one "TAXI/FHV PICK-UP/DROP-OFF ONLY" location on Truxton Street between Sackman Street and Van Sinderen Avenue (NYC Open Data, nfid-uabd). The posted sign on the street is what counts.
