Cypress Hills at a glance (zone 63)
Zone 63 appears in TLC's lookup table as a Brooklyn "Boro Zone". That is a label in the trip data, not a legal border. On the TLC map it touches eight zones, half of them in Queens. In Brooklyn: Bushwick South, East New York, East New York/Pennsylvania Avenue and Ocean Hill. In Queens: Forest Park/Highland Park, Howard Beach, Ozone Park and Woodhaven.
When rides start here
Cypress Hills is busiest at the start of the workday, unlike its north Brooklyn neighbours such as Bushwick South, which peak late at night. On an average weekday, pickups climb to about 172 in the 8 a.m. hour, and 21.3% of weekday pickups start between 7 and 10 a.m. Saturday (about 2,715 pickups) peaks in the evening at 7 p.m., and Sunday's busiest hour is midnight. Overnight is never empty: even at 2 a.m. on a weekday there are about 27 pickups an hour.
Growth through the year, and fewer yellow cabs
Pickups here rose during the year. They went from 59,914 in September 2025 to 75,873 in May 2026, about 27% more, and stayed above 72,000 a month in June to August. June–August 2026 had 15% more pickups than September–November 2025, the 3rd-biggest rise of any Brooklyn zone. Twelve months of data cannot tell you whether that growth will last.
Yellow taxis moved the other way. They did 938–1,555 pickups a month through March 2026, then 1,228 in April and 1,260 in May, and only 617, 552 and 488 in June, July and August.
Where trips go
East New York is the top destination by far (17.3% of pickups), and 10.9% of trips stay inside Cypress Hills. Woodhaven in Queens takes 6.1%, Ocean Hill 4.3% and Bushwick South 3.3%. Ridgewood and Richmond Hill, also in Queens, are in the top ten. JFK takes 2.5%. Trips that end here come from the same places, plus South Ozone Park and Howard Beach in Queens.
Who serves the zone, and what it pays
App services did 829,174 pickups (98.4%), with 13,347 yellow and 215 green. The median app trip was 2.63 miles and 14.7 minutes, with a $15.78 fare and $13.59 driver pay before tips and tolls, just under the $13.90 Brooklyn middle. Tips are low: app riders tipped $0.32 on average (1.6% of the fare), and card-paying yellow riders 0.7%. For yellow cabs, the median trip was 4.9 miles and $26.50. App pay per engaged hour was $58.94, which leaves out time between trips.
Pickup rules near the borough line
Cypress Hills and its Queens neighbours are all in TLC's Hail Zone, which covers the whole city except Manhattan south of East 96th and West 110th Streets and the airports (Chapter 51). So a yellow or green cab can take a hail on either side of the line. App drivers need a booked trip through their base wherever they are (80-19(c)(1)). No relief stand or taxi-stand sign shows up in zone 63 in DOT data (checked 2026-10-12). See who can pick up where.

Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
