Bushwick South, TLC taxi zone 37, is one of the three busiest zones in Brooklyn. From September 2025 to August 2026 it had 2,889,592 pickups (about 7,917 a day) and 2,930,808 drop-offs. Only Crown Heights North and East New York had more pickups. What makes it different is that it never really goes quiet: even at its slowest hour, more than a hundred rides start here.
Bushwick South at a glance (zone 37)
TLC's zone lookup labels zone 37 a Brooklyn "Boro Zone". That word is a sorting label in the trip data, not a legal area. On the TLC map, the zone borders seven others: Bedford, Bushwick North, Cypress Hills, East Williamsburg, Ocean Hill, Stuyvesant Heights and, across the borough line, Forest Park/Highland Park in Queens.
When rides start here
Weekday pickups rise steadily all day to an 11 p.m. peak (about 414). Saturday brings about 12,240 pickups, also peaking at 11 p.m. (about 816), and Sunday's busiest hour is 1 a.m. (about 898). On Sunday, 35.2% of pickups start before 5 a.m.
The floor is high. The quietest weekday hour, 3 a.m., still averages about 132 pickups. On Sunday the low point is 8 a.m., at about 283.
When riders arrive
Bushwick South is a place people come to late in the day. Weekday drop-offs peak at 11 p.m. (about 576 an hour). On Saturday the 11 p.m. hour averages about 1,024 drop-offs, and late-night pickups here are high at the same hours, so arrivals and departures overlap.
Across the year, May 2026 was busiest (258,838 pickups) and September 2025 the quietest (216,541). Every month from October on had more than 230,000.

App trips are short: a median of 2.56 miles and 16.4 minutes, a $17.95 fare and $15.05 driver pay before tips and tolls. Yellow trips are longer, a median 4.8 miles and $28.84, and 26.4% of them paid the Congestion Relief Zone charge. Card-paying yellow riders tipped just 1.9% of the fare (cash tips are not recorded). App pay per engaged hour was $58.30; that excludes waiting time.
Pickup rules and notes
The whole zone is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51), so yellow taxis and green cabs may take street hails. For-hire and app drivers must not: every pickup must be pre-arranged through a licensed base (80-19(c)(1)), and a first violation is $200–$350. DOT relief-stand and sign data checked on 2026-10-12 show no relief stand or taxi-stand sign here. Next door, Bushwick North has a taxi-stand sign on Palmetto Street. Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
