Van Cortlandt Village (TLC zone 241) is a mid-sized north-west Bronx zone with a late Saturday-night peak. About 2,684 trips a day start here (979,819 from September 2025 to August 2026), and Saturday is the busiest day, with demand highest at 10 and 11 p.m. Trips do not go to one place: the top destination takes under 8% of pickups, and Inwood in Manhattan is in the top ten.
The counts come from TLC's trip files for yellow cabs, green cabs and Uber/Lyft. A car-service trip booked directly with a base, without an app company, does not show up in them.
Zone 241 at a glance
TLC lists the zone in the Bronx with the "Boro Zone" data label. The label is for data only and does not change pickup rules. TLC's zone map gives it five neighbours: Spuyten Duyvil/Kingsbridge, Kingsbridge Heights, Bedford Park, Norwood and Van Cortlandt Park.
Saturday nights
On weekdays the pattern is the usual morning rush: 8 a.m. averages about 239 pickups. Saturday looks different. It is the busiest day of the week (about 2,979 pickups), and its top hours are 10 p.m. (172), 11 p.m. (167) and 8 p.m. (164). Arrivals follow the same late pattern: on Saturdays the most drop-offs come at 11 p.m. (about 187), and on Sundays at midnight (about 172).
Across the year, September 2025 was the low (72,721 pickups) and March 2026 the high (90,674). December 2025 was close behind at 88,387. Yellow cab pickups fell from 902 in May 2026 to 356 in June and to 289 by August, while app pickups changed far less. The trip files do not give a reason for the yellow drop.
Where trips go
No destination dominates. The zone itself takes 7.7%, Spuyten Duyvil/Kingsbridge 7.1%, "Outside NYC" 6.7% (TLC zone 265, place not given), Bedford Park 5.9%, Norwood 5.6% and Kingsbridge Heights 4.4%. Manhattan appears twice: Inwood (4.0%) and Washington Heights South (2.6%). Trips into the zone come most often from Spuyten Duyvil/Kingsbridge (8.7% of drop-offs), and Marble Hill supplies 2.9%.
Fares and pay
App trips here are short but slow: a median of 2.74 miles takes 14.1 minutes. The median fare is $15.81 and the median driver pay is $13.97 (before tips and tolls), 10th of 42 Bronx zones. Pay per engaged hour is $62.24, which counts rider-on-board time only. App riders tipped 2.0% of the fare, and 3.5% of app pickups paid the Congestion Relief Zone fee.
Yellow cabs had 8,679 pickups, about 24 a day, with a median trip of 7.2 miles and $32.50 on the meter.
Rules and curb space
- The zone is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51): yellow and green cabs may take hails. Uber and Lyft drivers may only take trips booked through the app (80-19(c)(1)). Waiting at a taxi stand for an app trip is a separate problem: FHV pickups at taxi stands are banned under 80-19(d)(2) in Chapter 80.
- DOT lists no relief stand or taxi stand sign in zone 241 (checked 2026-10-12). For a break, the nearest listed relief stands are on West Kingsbridge Road (Kingsbridge Heights, 2 spaces) and West 231st Street (Spuyten Duyvil/Kingsbridge, 4 spaces). See relief stands.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
