Van Cortlandt Park (TLC zone 240) is a small zone with an unusual trip pattern. About 523 trips a day start here, and 31.5% of them end outside New York City, a bigger share than any other Bronx zone. It is busier on Saturdays than on weekdays, has a strong late-night tail, and almost no trips go to the airports. Uber and Lyft did 99.2% of the 190,778 pickups from September 2025 to August 2026.
What is counted: every yellow, green and Uber/Lyft trip in TLC's published trip files for zone 240. What is not: black car and livery trips booked directly with a base.
The zone and its neighbours
TLC files zone 240 under the Bronx with the data label "Boro Zone". That label is used for trip data only; it does not decide who may pick up. The zone touches seven others on TLC's map: Riverdale, Spuyten Duyvil/Kingsbridge, Van Cortlandt Village, Norwood, Bronx Park, Williamsbridge/Olinville and Woodlawn/Wakefield.
Weekends and late nights
A weekday averages about 504 pickups, a Saturday about 599 and a Sunday about 538. Weekday trips peak at 8 a.m. (about 33) and again at 5–6 p.m. (about 31). Saturday builds through the evening to 8 p.m. (36) and stays high at 11 p.m. (34). On Sundays the single busiest hour is midnight (about 35 pickups). Night trips are a large share here: 19.7% of Sunday pickups and 15.4% of Saturday pickups start between midnight and 5 a.m.
Drop-offs follow a different clock. Arrivals peak at 8 a.m. on every day type, including Saturday and Sunday mornings, and the zone has only about 81 drop-offs for every 100 pickups.
A summer zone
Pickups were lowest in February 2026 (13,700) and highest in June 2026 (17,501). June, July and August 2026 each had between 16,983 and 17,501 pickups. From September 2025 to February 2026 the range was 13,700 to 15,775.
Where trips go
"Outside NYC" (TLC zone 265) takes 31.5% of all pickups. The trip data does not split it by county or state. The rest go mostly to nearby Bronx zones: Williamsbridge/Olinville (7.1%), Woodlawn/Wakefield (7.0%), Norwood (6.4%) and Riverdale (4.5%). No Manhattan zone is in the top 10. Arrivals come mainly from Woodlawn/Wakefield (12.6% of drop-offs) and Williamsbridge/Olinville (11.0%).
Fares and pay
The median app trip is 3.22 miles and 12.2 minutes, with a $15.25 fare. Median driver pay is $13.75 (before tips and tolls), close to the middle of the Bronx. Pay per engaged hour is $67.94, fourth in the borough, but it counts only time with a rider in the car. App riders tipped 2.3% of the fare. Yellow cabs had about 4 pickups a day; their median trip was 9.1 miles and $35.50 on the meter.
Rules that apply here
- Hails: the Bronx is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51), so yellow and green cabs may take hails. Green cabs recorded only 47 pickups here in a year.
- Apps and car services: pre-arranged trips only (80-19(c)(1)). A street hail is not allowed for FHV drivers anywhere in the city.
- Leaving the city: taxi and green cab drivers must not refuse a trip to Westchester or Nassau without a permitted reason (80-20(a)(1)). The meter stays on, and the part outside the city is charged at twice the meter (Chapter 80, 80-17(f)(2)). See taxi trips outside NYC.
- Stands: none listed in this zone by DOT (checked 2026-10-12). Two neighbouring zones have one: West 231st Street (Spuyten Duyvil/Kingsbridge) and East 233rd Street (Williamsbridge/Olinville).

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
