Eastchester (TLC zone 81) gives drivers plenty of trips but small ones. About 2,114 rides a day start here (771,728 from September 2025 to August 2026), and the median app trip is only 2.24 miles. That makes Eastchester the Bronx zone with the lowest median app fare ($13.43) and the lowest median driver pay per trip ($11.29). Most trips stay in the north-east Bronx, often to or from Co-op City, and 14.5% leave the city.
Counts are from TLC's trip files for yellow cabs, green cabs and Uber/Lyft. Non-app black car and livery trips have no record there and are not included.
Eastchester in numbers
TLC places zone 81 in the Bronx with the "Boro Zone" data label. That label does not change any pickup rule. Its neighbours on TLC's map are Co-op City, Williamsbridge/Olinville, Woodlawn/Wakefield, Allerton/Pelham Gardens and Pelham Bay Park. It ranks 24th of the Bronx's 43 zones by pickups.
Short trips: what that means for pay
A typical app ride from here is 2.24 miles, 11.4 minutes, a $13.43 fare and $11.29 driver pay (tips and tolls not included). Per trip that is low. Per engaged hour it is $64.52, tenth-highest in the Bronx, because the rides are quick. Keep in mind that "engaged hour" counts only time with a rider; it leaves out the drive to the pickup and time waiting for the next request. App riders tipped 1.4% of the fare, about $0.26 a trip.
Very few trips go far. Only 1.1% of app pickups go to an airport, and 1.5% were charged the Congestion Relief Zone fee, the lowest share in the Bronx. Yellow cabs are the exception: their 7,102 pickups had a median of 10 miles and $38.05 on the meter.
When rides start
Weekdays peak hard at 8 a.m. (about 173 pickups), then 7 a.m. (145) and 9 a.m. (130). Saturday is the busiest day overall (about 2,279 pickups against 2,120 on a weekday); its peak is mid-afternoon, around 3 p.m. Sunday is the quietest day at about 1,922.
September 2025 was the low point (53,388 pickups) and March 2026 the high point (72,289). August 2026 (64,622) was about 21% above September 2025. Almost every Bronx zone was quietest in September 2025, but Eastchester's rise was larger than in the middle Bronx zone (about 18%).
Where trips go, and where they come from
Out of every 100 pickups, about 15 end outside NYC (TLC zone 265, place not given), 11 in Williamsbridge/Olinville, 10 in Co-op City and 10 inside Eastchester. Woodlawn/Wakefield (7.6%) and Allerton/Pelham Gardens (5.4%) follow.
Arrivals tell a slightly different story. Co-op City is the single biggest source of trips into Eastchester (13.9% of drop-offs), ahead of Williamsbridge/Olinville (12.8%) and trips within Eastchester (10.9%).
Pickup rules and stands

- For the 14.5% of trips that leave the city, taxi and green cab out-of-city fare rules apply: see taxi trips outside NYC.
- DOT's data lists no relief stand and no taxi stand in zone 81 (checked 2026-10-12). Neighbouring Williamsbridge/Olinville has one on East 233rd Street.

Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
