Forest Park/Highland Park, TLC taxi zone 96, is one of the quietest zones in Queens, and its trips follow the weather and the weekend. Just 39,497 trips began here between September 2025 and August 2026, roughly 108 a day; only five Queens zones had fewer. More trips end here (46,030) than start here. Summer months (June–August) were about 60% busier than winter (December–February), and Saturdays about half again as busy as weekdays.
The zone at a glance (zone 96)
The zone is named for its two parks. TLC's lookup table files it as a Queens "Boro Zone", which is a data label and not a legal line. Because it is long and narrow, it touches nine zones, more than most: Ridgewood, Glendale, Forest Hills, Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill and Woodhaven in Queens, plus Bushwick North, Bushwick South and Cypress Hills in Brooklyn.
Warm months and weekend afternoons
The monthly chart tells the story. Pickups fell from 3,384 in September 2025 to about 2,500 a month in December to February, then climbed every spring month to 4,221 in August 2026. Drop-offs moved the same way and doubled, from 2,571 in February to 5,117 in August.
Within the week, Saturday and Sunday lead. Rides tend to arrive around midday (Saturday drop-offs peak at 2 p.m., Sunday's at 1 p.m.) and leave in the early evening: Saturday pickups peak at 6 p.m. and Sunday's at 5 p.m. On a Saturday, 29% of pickups start between 4 and 8 p.m. Overnight pickups are rare: between 1 and 5 a.m. there are one to three an hour on weekends and about one an hour on weekdays.
Trips spread in every direction
No zone dominates. The top five destinations, Ridgewood (6.9%), Forest Hills (6.7%), Richmond Hill (6%), Woodhaven (6%) and Glendale (5.9%), are all neighbours, and together the top ten take less than half of all trips (46.6%). Brooklyn's Cypress Hills, Bushwick North and Bushwick South take 8.9% between them. Only 2.5% of app pickups went to an airport, 64th of 69 Queens zones.
Riders who come here start out from the same ring of neighbours. Ridgewood sends the most (9.4% of drop-offs), then Woodhaven (6.7%), Forest Hills (6.4%) and Glendale (6%). East New York in Brooklyn also makes the top ten at 3%. So the biggest sources of trips into the zone are its neighbours, though none sends more than one trip in ten.
Sectors and pay
Of the 39,497 pickups, 38,693 (98%) were app rides, 779 yellow and 25 green. App rides run a little longer than in Ridgewood (2.78 miles) or Glendale (2.5 miles): 3.4 miles and 15.8 minutes at the median, for an $18.23 fare and $15.42 to the driver before tips, 17th in Queens. Riders tipped 3.1% ($0.73 on average). 5.2% of app pickups paid the Congestion Relief Zone charge.
Rules and practical notes
The whole zone is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51), so yellow and green cabs may take hails here. App and other FHV drivers need a trip booked through a licensed base, and waiting by a park entrance for a wave is not one (80-19(c)(1)). DOT's relief-stand and parking-sign data (checked 2026-10-12) showed no relief stand or taxi stand in zone 96. With about 108 pickups a day, the trip numbers on this page are small; treat single months with care. See how taxi zones work.

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
