University Heights/Morris Heights (TLC zone 235) is a busy west Bronx zone with weekday taxi stands on University Avenue and Hall of Fame Terrace. About 3,056 trips a day start here (1,115,426 from September 2025 to August 2026), 11th in the Bronx. Green cabs are more visible here than in most of the borough (480 pickups), about one trip in ten goes to upper Manhattan, and late Saturday and Sunday nights bring many arrivals.
The trip numbers come from TLC's yellow, green and Uber/Lyft trip files; the stand details come from DOT open data. Car-service trips booked without an app company are not counted.
Zone 235 at a glance
TLC lists the zone in the Bronx with the "Boro Zone" data label, which does not affect who may pick up. Its neighbours on TLC's map are Fordham South, Highbridge, Kingsbridge Heights, Mount Hope and West Concourse.
Taxi stands on University Avenue
DOT's parking-sign data (nfid-uabd) has current "TAXI HAILING (SYMBOL) TAXI STAND MONDAY-FRIDAY 8AM-10PM" signs at:
- the south side of Hall of Fame Terrace between University Avenue and Sedgwick Avenue;
- the east side of University Avenue between West Burnside Avenue and West 181st Street.
A third sign record with the same wording, on the west side of University Avenue between Hall of Fame Terrace and West 180th Street, has no map coordinates, so we could not confirm its zone. The signs show the stand hours only on weekdays; check the posted sign for what applies at other times.
What the rules say (Chapter 80):
- Yellow cabs may take any vacant spot at a taxi stand, and green cabs may too in the Hail Zone (80-19(d)(1)). Join the back of the line (80-19(d)(4)).
- Yellow and green drivers must not cruise for hails within 100 feet of an authorized taxi stand (80-19(a)(4)(ii), 80-19(b)(2)(ii)).
- FHV drivers, including Uber and Lyft, must not pick up at any taxi stand; a first violation is $350 (80-19(d)(2)).
More: taxi stand rules. DOT lists no relief stand in this zone; neighbouring Kingsbridge Heights has one on West Kingsbridge Road.
When rides start and end
Weekday pickups peak at 8 a.m. (about 241) and 7 a.m. (206). Saturday is the busiest day (about 3,376 pickups against 3,019 on a weekday), with its top hours at 10 p.m. and 8 p.m. (about 187 each). On Sunday the busiest hour is midnight (about 168).
Arrivals run late. On weekdays drop-offs peak at 5 p.m. and stay near that level at 8 p.m. (about 173–175). On Saturdays the top arrival hour is 11 p.m. (about 226), and 25.1% of Sunday drop-offs happen between midnight and 5 a.m.
September 2025 was the quietest month (79,199 pickups) and March 2026 the busiest (103,988).
Where trips go
The top destinations are the zone itself (7.7%), Mount Hope (5.5%), West Concourse (4.7%) and Highbridge (4.2%). Upper Manhattan takes about one trip in ten: Washington Heights South (4.1%), Washington Heights North (3.1%) and Inwood (2.9%). Only 3.5% of trips leave the city.
Fares, pay and tips
The median app trip is 2.62 miles and 14.2 minutes, with a $15.32 fare and $13.73 driver pay (before tips and tolls). Pay per engaged hour is $61.20, counting only time with a rider. App riders tipped just 1.1% of the fare (about $0.22 a trip), tied for the lowest tip rate in the Bronx with Fordham South and two other zones. 4.2% of app pickups paid the Congestion Relief Zone fee, seventh in the borough.
Yellow cabs made 12,785 pickups (about 35 a day), with a median trip of 5.82 miles and $28.50 on the meter. The green cab row shows a $3 median fare next to a 5.02-mile median trip, which looks like a recording quirk.
Who may pick up
The zone is in TLC's Hail Zone (Chapter 51): yellow and green cabs may take street hails, and green cabs had 480 pickups here in the year. App drivers may only take booked trips (80-19(c)(1)). See who can pick up where and can Uber drivers pick up at a taxi stand?

Data on this page
Aggregates of public data. They describe trips and vehicles, never individual people.
Aggregated by TLC Help from TLC trip records, Sep 2025 – Aug 2026 (pickup date; TLC publishes trip files about two months after the month ends and may revise them). 'App' = high-volume for-hire services (Uber, Lyft). Taxi records with a negative fare (reversals) are excluded. Averages, medians and rates use 'clean' trips only: 1 minute to 4 hours, more than 0 and under 150 miles, fare above $0 and under $1,000. 'Fare' is the metered fare_amount for taxis and base_passenger_fare for app trips — before tolls, tips, taxes and surcharges — so it is not what the passenger paid in total. App driver_pay is TLC's 'total driver pay (not including tolls or tips and net of commission, surcharges, or taxes)'. Tips are separate. 'Per engaged hour' divides pay by passenger time only (pickup to drop-off). It leaves out time driving to pickups and waiting for requests, so real hourly earnings are lower; it is not the TLC minimum-pay formula. Monthly cells with 1–9 trips are shown as blank (null). Pairs with fewer than 10 trips are not listed.
