You can take the 24-hour course (TLC calls it the New TLC Driver License Course, 3 days) and WAV training only at a TLC-authorized school, and the TLC Driver License Exam only at a PSI test center. On NYC Open Data (updated September 25, 2026) there are 16 school locations — all in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens — and 12 exam centers across all five boroughs. Pick a school by borough and language below, then book the exam from PSI's email after you finish the course.
How to use the finder
- Choose the type. The three tables below are: the 24-hour course, WAV training and the exam. You need all three for a new TLC Driver License (not for paratransit or commuter van licenses).
- Filter by borough or language. Type a borough ("Queens"), a neighborhood ("Jamaica") or a language ("Bengali") in the filter box above a table. You can also sort by any column.
- Check the map. It shades the taxi zones that contain at least one course, WAV or exam location. Zones with darker color have more locations.
- Call before you go. These lists change. Confirm the address, class dates, language and price with the school, and check TLC's Driver Education page for the current list.
24-hour course schools
The 3-day course is 8 hours a day for three days. Schools will not register you without a TLC application number, and they will not register you after the 85th day of your application. Most schools list a price of $250; TLC's licensing page gives a range of $245–$250 (as of October 12, 2026). Course languages below are what each school lists on Open Data.
WAV training (Passenger Assistance and Wheelchair Accessible Vehicle training)
WAV training is at least 3 hours in class plus a 1-hour hands-on assessment, where you push a passenger in a wheelchair into a vehicle and connect the floor straps. TLC lists the price as $50–$125. The Open Data list does not include prices. TLC suggests finishing WAV training before the exam because the exam covers it. More: WAV training for TLC drivers.
TLC exam test centers
PSI runs the exam on a computer: 80 questions, 70% (56 right) to pass, up to 2 hours, $49 per attempt (as of October 12, 2026). You cannot book it until PSI emails you, which happens after your school reports the 3-day course. You pick the test site while booking. Bring your state-issued driver license; the name must match your TLC application exactly.
What the results mean
- No school in Manhattan or Staten Island. If you live there, the nearest course may be in Brooklyn or Queens. The exam, however, can be taken in all five boroughs.
- Same school, two locations. Several schools appear twice (for example, two Queens addresses for one school). Classes in your language may run at only one of them.
- Price "Not listed". One school has no price in the dataset. Ask before you book.
- Exam lists differ. TLC's web page names 6 exam sites; Open Data lists 12. Both are official. PSI's booking screen shows the sites you can actually book.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I take the TLC 24-hour course?
Only at a TLC-authorized school. NYC Open Data listed 16 school locations on September 25, 2026, all in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens. Most list a price of $250. You need your TLC application number before a school will register you.
Is there a TLC course school in Manhattan or Staten Island?
Not on the list we checked. TLC's own school list is split into Brooklyn, Bronx and Queens, and the Open Data list from September 25, 2026 had no Manhattan or Staten Island school. You can still take the exam in Manhattan and Staten Island.
Where do I take the TLC exam?
At a PSI test center. You book it through the link PSI emails you after you finish the 3-day course. Open Data listed 12 centers on September 25, 2026; TLC's Driver Education page names 6 of them. You choose the site when you book.
Can I take WAV training at the same school as the 24-hour course?
Usually yes. Every one of the 16 WAV training locations on Open Data also appears on the 24-hour course list. Ask the school whether you can book both together.
Which language can I take the course in?
It depends on the school. TLC says the course is offered in Arabic, Bengali, English, Mandarin, Russian, Spanish and Urdu. The table shows the languages each school lists; some also list Cantonese, Hindi, French or Nepali. Confirm with the school.
